Dr. rer. nat. Dipl. Chem. Annette Foelske

Head (AIC, E057E)

Annette Foelse studied chemistry at the Heinrich-Heine-University and received her doctorate in 2004 with Prof. Hans-Henning Strehblow in the field of electrochemical passive layer formation on cobalt electrodes by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (quasi in-situ EC XPS) and scanning tunnelling microscopy (in-situ EC STM). She continued her research activities in the group of Dr. Rüdiger Kötz as a Research Associate in the Laboratory for Electrochemistry at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen (Switzerland). Her area of responsibility was operating measurements as well as the extension and maintenance of an X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). The research focussed on novel applications of this method for interfacial analysis in the field of electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems, as well as ionic liquids (in-situ EC XPS). Since July 2014, Annette Foelske is head of the Analytical Instrumentation Centre at the TU Wien. In addition to coordinating internal and external analysis related to the AIC, she is responsible for surface analysis by means of photoelectron spectroscopy.

Dr. rer. nat Dipl. Phys. Markus Sauer

Technical responsibility (AIC, E057E)

Markus Sauer attended the University of Vienna, he graduated in 2010 in physics with his diploma thesis in the field of multilayer semiconductor structures. In addition, he engaged himself with the study of the electrical transport properties of high-temperature superconductors. During his following PhD thesis in the group of Prof. Pichler he was able to experience and learn photoelectron spectroscopy in the laboratory and at various synchrotron facilities. He obtained his doctorate in 2014 in the field of carbon nanostructures, with the focus on the research of the electronic properties of functionalised carbon nanotubes. After a brief excursion in the industry, he continued his research activities as a research assistant in Prof. Pichler’s group.

Since June 2015 Markus Sauer is responsible for the AIC’s management of the measurements as well as the extension and maintenance of the photoelectron spectrometers.
